Le projet Espèces Sans Espaces s’inscrit dans la pratique artistique de Thomas Pausz, qui vise à proposer de nouvelles formes de narrations de l’environnement et des relations inter-espèces par la création d’écosystèmes médiatiques mêlant travail documentaire, fiction et création numérique.
Cette exposition soutenue par Normandie Impressionniste et la Région Normandie s’inscrit dans le cadre de la programmation du festival ]interstice[18 rencontre des inclassables, proposé par Station Mir, Oblique/s et le collectif Manœuvre dont le thème en 2024 est : « Paysages contre nature ». Cet événement propose une approche spécifique des arts numériques et de la création expérimentale qui s’incarne par des choix d’œuvres audacieux, des thématiques de recherche innovantes et une véritable politique de production et de soutien à la création et aux artistes.
L’exposition sera composée de deux parties, Biopèlerinage et Shellreader.
Biopèlerinage est une installation documentaire immersive multi-écrans avec un paysage sonore qui met en scène des nouvelles formes d’habitabilité des côtes inspirées par le travail des chercheurs du C.R.E.C.
Shellreader est une interface numérique entre organisme vivant et archive qui permet d’encoder des textes sous forme de coquillages artificiels. Les coquilles-textes imprimées en 3D peuvent ensuite être reconnues par une intelligence artificielle.
As part of Normandie Impressionniste and following his artistic research residency at the Modular Laboratory of the ésam Caen/Cherbourg in 2022 and 2023, Thomas Pausz focused on the protected coastal ecosystems and the ecology of intertidal zones (located between low and high tide) of Normandy, in partnership with the C.R.E.C Marine Station of the University of Caen Normandy and the Institute for Contemporary Publishing Archives.
Thomas Pausz proposes new forms of environmental storytelling and interspecies relationships through the creation of media ecosystems blending documentary, fiction, and digital creation. His approach multiplies viewpoints, changes scales, and temporalities to shape the experience of a « more-than-human » landscape. Species Without Spaces covers ecological issues and is accompanied by critical reflections on the role of creation and technologies.
The exhibition will consist of two parts, Biopilgrimage and Shellreader.
Biopilgrimage is an immersive documentary installation with multiple screens and a soundscape that stages new forms of coastal habitability inspired by the researchers of C.R.E.C.
Shellreader is a digital interface between a living organism and an archive that encodes texts in the form of artificial shells. The 3D-printed shell-texts can then be recognized by artificial intelligence.
