Acorán est un long plan filmé à travers les nuages du mont Teide à Tenerife. L’inquiétant paysage sonore résulte d’enregistrements sur le terrain et d’expériences électroniques.
Le titre provient de la langue aujourd’hui disparue des Guanches, les habitants indigènes de Tenerife, avant d’être colonisés par l’Espagne il y a plusieurs siècles. Acorán fait référence à leur ancien Dieu qui, selon la légende, sauve le Soleil après avoir été emprisonné dans le volcan qui a plongé le monde dans l’obscurité. Pendant le tournage, le volcan de l’île voisine de La Palma est entré en éruption, donnant un nouveau souffle à cette légende locale.
Acorán is a slow filmed trajectory through the clouds of Mount Teide. The eerie soundscape is the result of field recordings and electronic experiments. The title comes from the now extinct language of the Guanches, the indigenous inhabitants of Tenerife before they were colonised by Spain centuries ago. Acorán refers to their ancient God who, according to legend, saves the Sun after being trapped in the volcano that plunged the world into darkness. During the filming, the volcano on the nearby island of La Palma erupted, giving new life to this local legend.
