Samā‘ (du turc semâ) est un mot qui renvoie à la notion d’audition spirituelle et à une danse giratoire des derviches tourneurs soufis.
La performance consiste à faire tournoyer un haut-parleur diffusant un son continu dans différents espaces. Le tournoiement, par la vitesse et la longueur de câble, dessine une spirale invisible tout en révélant les propriétés acoustiques du lieu. Tel un rhombe (instrument à vent primitif), il fait ressentir le potentiel de la transe dans ce mouvement incessant.
Samā‘ (from the Turkish word semâ) refers to the concept of spiritual hearing and the whirling dance of the Sufi whirling dervishes. The performance consists of swirling a speaker that emits a continuous sound in different spaces. The whirling, through the speed and length of the cable, draws an invisible spiral while revealing the acoustic properties of the place. Similar to a rhombus (a primitive wind instrument), this incessant movement allows us to feel the potential of being in a trance.
