Spécimens I à XIV (Géométries numériques tridimensionnelles)
Des technologies de scan 3D sont détournées afin d’inventorier et numériser des fleurs fanées découvertes sur des sites naturels protégés. Fidèles aux couleurs, formes et textures des modèles, les portraits obtenus figent à jamais dans les profondeurs digitales ces instants de vie qui s’échappent. Les erreurs de reconstructions inhérentes à la technique déployée sur le terrain sont conservées et les maillages qui en résultent dessinent les contours imparfaits d’un règne végétal en décomposition.
Diplômé de l’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris en 2014, Paul Duncombe a exposé notamment à la Biennale Némo, au Salon de Montrouge, au Max Ernst Museum Brühl des LVR, au Palais de Tokyo à Paris, au Unicorn Center for Art à Pékin, à Avatar à Québec et au Kyoto Art Center. Il est lauréat du Prix COAL. Plusieurs de ses créations sont co-produites par Station Mir depuis 2016 et ont été exposées au festival ]interstice[ en 2018 et 2019.
Specimens I to XIV (Three-dimensional digital geometries)
This innovative project leverages 3D scanning technologies to catalog and digitize wilted flowers found in protected natural areas. True to the original models’ colors, shapes, and textures, the resulting portraits permanently capture these fleeting moments of life within the digital realm. The method deliberately maintains the inherent reconstruction errors, leading to the creation of meshes that outline the flawed contours of a decaying botanical kingdom.
A 2014 graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Paul Duncombe has exhibited at the Némo Biennial, the Salon de Montrouge, the LVR’s Max Ernst Museum Brühl, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Unicorn Center for Art in Beijing, Avatar in Quebec City and the Kyoto Art Center, among others. He is the winner of the COAL Prize. Several of his creations have been co-produced by Station Mir since 2016 and were exhibited at the ]interstice[ festival in 2018 and 2019.
